GentleQuit — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 6 October 2026
GentleQuit is a quit-smoking app: a plan to cut down or pick a quit day, help through cravings, and your progress. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use it.
The short version: your plan, your log and your notes stay on your phone. We don't have accounts, analytics or a server. The free version shows ads from Google, which collects some device data to show them. GentleQuit Pro removes the ads.
What stays on your phone
GentleQuit stores these only on your device:
- your habit and plan: cigarettes a day, pack price, your quit day, plan length and the waking hours for reminders
- your reasons for quitting and the medicine or support you chose
- the cigarettes you log, slips and what set them off, the cravings you ride out, and your plans for danger times
- your settings: reminders, theme, app icon and whether app lock is on
- what the home-screen and lock-screen widgets show
We never receive this information and have no way to see it. There are no accounts, no cloud sync and no analytics or crash-reporting services. Reminders are scheduled on your phone. Everything except the ads works with no internet connection.
App lock (Pro) uses your phone's own fingerprint, face or screen-lock check; GentleQuit only learns whether it succeeded. Backups and CSV exports (Pro) are files you save where you choose; we never see them. Call a quitline opens your phone's dialler; the call is between you and the quitline.
Deleting it: uninstalling GentleQuit deletes everything it stored. Backup files you saved elsewhere stay where you put them until you delete them.
Ads (free version only)
The free version shows ads from Google AdMob: a banner on the Health and Settings screens, and now and then a full-screen ad at a natural break, such as leaving Progress or Settings (at most one every 4 minutes and 4 a day). Ads never appear while you're logging a cigarette, riding out a craving or dealing with a slip.
GentleQuit asks Google for non-personalised ads only. They're chosen from what's on screen and your general location, not from a profile of you, and GentleQuit never asks to track you across other apps.
To show ads, count them and stop fraud, Google may still collect:
- your IP address, and an approximate location derived from it
- information about the ads you see and tap
- diagnostic information about how the ads perform
- device identifiers used for advertising and fraud prevention
In the UK, the European Economic Area and Switzerland, Google's consent form asks before any ads are shown. You can change your choice at any time from Settings → Privacy choices.
Google's use of this information is covered by Google's policy: How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
GentleQuit Pro removes all ads, and the ad software does not start at all for Pro users.
Purchases
GentleQuit Pro is a one-time purchase handled entirely by the Apple App Store or Google Play. We receive confirmation that you bought Pro, never your payment details. Apple's and Google's own privacy policies cover the purchase.
Health information
GentleQuit is a self-help tool, not medical advice, and not a medical device. The recovery timeline it shows comes from the World Health Organization. Nothing you enter about your smoking leaves your phone.
Children
GentleQuit is meant for adults who smoke. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new "Last updated" date.
